Here are several places you can get alerts; sign up for them all!

Learn to Recognize Sirens

You'll hear the following test sirens in Anacortes on a regular basis. You can hear sample alerts at Skagit County DEM's website.

These sirens are located near Cap Sante, Skyline, and Anacortes marinas and are tested the first Monday of every month at noon. When sounded at other times, it indicates an imminent tsunami and the need to get to higher ground. Follow tsunami evacuation routes.

This siren is tested every Wednesday at noon. When sounded at other times, it indicates an alert for refinery personnel. If any impact outside the refinery is expected, the public will be notified via Code Red.

Build an Emergency Kit

After a major emergency, you may need to survive on your own for several days. To be prepared, you should have food, water and other supplies for every member of your family in an easily accessible kit. It should include:

  • Tsunami alert: first Monday of every month at noon
  • HF Sinclair Puget Sound Refinery: every Wednesday at noon. This siren is for the benefit of workers at the refinery, not the general public. If there were to be an emergency affecting people outside the fence, local government would provide notification through other channels.
